The History of Zaman University
Zaman University was founded in 2010 by Mr. Ali Kokten,
who is the former Chairman of Zaman International School (ZIS), which had two
campuses at that time: A high school and a kindergarten & primary school.
The success of both campuses has convinced ZIS to extend its mission to
contribute further to the development and improvement of education in
Cambodia. The success story of the Zaman International Schools has
consistently inspired the educational sector in Cambodia in terms of providing
quality education at all levels since 1997.
With the same kind of enthusiasm and commitment to excellence, Zaman University strives to provide the best university programs in Cambodia so as to raise the level of higher education, as well as to produce an excellent pool of human resources that will definitely contribute to the overall development and enrichment of Cambodia and its citizens. In recognizing a global world and the need for global communication, since its inception, the language of instruction at Zaman University has been English. Parents, students, professionals, business leaders, government officials, as well as many other individuals in Cambodia, have been waiting for Zaman to open a university with an international curriculum and international faculty that will set the tone in higher education as well. Deputy Prime Minister HE Sok An’s speech of his expectations of Zaman University during the inauguration of the Primary School campus in 2008 finally convinced the Management Board of Zaman that it was now time to open a high standard university. Prime Minister HE Hun Sen accepted our license application and signed the license on 18 May 2010.After an inauguration dinner on 20 February 2011, Zaman University had its official inauguration program on 21 February 2011. Those in attendance included: Deputy Prime Minister HE Sok An, of Cambodia, Deputy Prime Minister HE Bulent Arinc, of Turkey, and an international delegation. Both Deputy Prime Ministers cut the ribbon and took a tour of the university building. Following the ribbon cutting and campus tour, the Rector of Zaman University, Dr. Erkan Polatdemir, shared detailed information about the university. Currently, Zaman University has 4 faculties and 8 departmes.
